A Roll of Film From May, 2025

I borrowed a 35mm camera for the weekend and here are some of the photos that I took. I'd never used this camera before, the Pentax K1000, and I didn't ask for any help - which I should've done. A result of that is that I didn't know what one of the dials on the lens did.... it was the exposure. So, a few of the shots came out darker than I would've liked; including some of a car shop garage which I would've liked to have seen. But, hey, that's the game.

The focal range was incredible and I really enjoyed playing around with that. I didn't have a lens with zoom (that's a technical term, for sure) and I'm a bit anxious when it comes to street photography so in the future I would definitely ask to borrow one of those as well! Anyway, here are some of the photos.

Fun fact: There was another man shooting this seagull on a film camera at the same time as me and it was a nice reminder of the connections we share with complete strangers.

In real life the visual contrast between these businessmen, on their lunch breaks, in their suits and the builders in their high vis was really brilliant. In black and white that gets washed out a little but I do like the composition of this one.

I took a few photos like this. I played around with the focal range and took 2 images. One focused close up and the other further away. Some came out better than others but I might make a zine of the pairs side by side.

I'm mad that I didn't line these guys up with that street art on the left. It reads 'Ocean' and that would've been nice. But, hey, I'm still getting used to shooting subjects in the street so it's all just a game of confidence!

I'm a big fan of this one. And I didn't set any alarms off or get scared away by any bikers. 10/10.

Another seagull. I want to shoot more gulls in flight and then maybe exhibit them at Gullfest 2026. Fingers crossed.

It was actually the roots here that intrigued me but I could've gone for a more interesting composition here. Also, the cable twisted around the man's ankle would've been a good section to draw focus to!

I would actually love to go onto a building site and just document stuff! If anyone can make that happen for me...

Sadly, the contrast isn't quite high enough here. I liked the idea though.

I'm a big fan of this too, even though it's supposed to be portrait and you can't see any of the garage :(
